Senior Children’s Residential Childcare Worker
Location: Derby
Salary: £35,121.60 – £37,243.20 OTE (inclusive of sleep-ins)
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
Hours: 40 per week + sleep-ins (alternate week shift pattern, includes on-call)
Bonus: £1,000 sign-on fee

Job Purpose
You will play a key role in delivering high-quality care, protection, and support to young people aged 10–18 with emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD). This includes supporting their physical, psychological, emotional, and recreational development while providing a safe, stable, and nurturing environment.
Key Duties
- Support children and young people with leisure interests and skill development.
- Implement and review individual care plans.
- Assist with day-to-day activities inside and outside the home.
- Record behaviours, needs, and progress within the home’s systems.
- Carry out key working sessions and co-key worker responsibilities.
- Conduct risk assessments and reviews.
- Plan shifts, delegate tasks, and lead conflict resolution/debriefs.
- Promote safeguarding and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations.
- Encourage independence and positive outcomes for each child.
About You
Essential:
- NVQ/QCF Level 3 or 4 in Children & Young People’s Workforce (or equivalent).
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in residential childcare.
- Experience supporting children with complex needs and challenging behaviour.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Resilient, patient, and passionate about making a difference.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of Children’s Home Regulations & Quality Standards (2015).
- Familiarity with safeguarding, health & safety, and care legislation.
- Diploma of Higher Education.
- Experience managing or mentoring junior staff.
